If you travel with a laptop, you risk destroying your PCMCIA modem whenever you plug into an unknown phone system. And in a best case your dial-up modem just simply won't work on a business phone system. Modems were designed for analog (POTS) lines but most office phones and many hotel land lines are digital, which means your fax modem can't establish any kind of communication-- or worse-- the higher voltage of the digital line will fry them.
With the Radish Inside Line Adapter, you can use your dial-up fax modem with your digital phone system. This has been tested successfully with a Lucent Definity PBX digital phone system, but will work on many others. A ten-position selector switch on the bottom helps select compatibility. You'll have to experiment which setting works.
The way this device works is simple. You can even keep it permanently plugged in to your land line digital phone-- or it small and light enough to take with you on the road. All you do is plug the device in between the receiver coiled cord and the phone base and then plug your modem into the box with a regular RJ-11 phone cord. When you want to make a modem call or send a fax via the fax modem, just lift the receiver and get adial tone. Then initiate your modem session. Just like using your modem on your home land line phone!
Plugs into regular 120V electricity for power via a five-foot power cord.
